How To Style Your Spring Racing Looks for Derby Day, Melbourne Cup and Oaks Day
B A M October is here just like that!!
Which means the Spring Racing Carnival is just around the corner.
‘W H A T ?’
I hear you say. I know, I am still trying to thaw out from winter myself!!
This time of year there is a real buzz around Melbourne. It is time to crawl out of hibernation, don your favourite frock, pop on a head-piece, shoes, jewels and a clutch to match. Whether you choose to embrace the carnival or not the bubbles are flowing and Carnival fever is at high pitch.
When it comes to choosing your outfit for the races you need to think about your personal style and interpret current trends to incorporate the unique millinery choices and accessories into one coordinated look.
It is important to wear a ‘race-wear appropriate’ outfit. To help you get inspired I have styled three looks for three of the main Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival days Derby Day, Melbourne Cup and Oaks Day. I have used the Kholo Bae Dress design in each look.
The Bae dress is a simple chic shift dress finishing at the knee. Flattering on all body shapes and it comes in an array of colours so you are sure to find one you love.
Derby Day Styling
Derby Day is all about black and white. From the simple silhouette of the white Bae dress to the show stopping head piece, you can’t go wrong with this look.
You can add the detail in your accessories and a red lip for a real pop.
Dress Kholo – bae dress white
Headpiece Murley and Co Millinery – miss louise for hire
Earrings Mimco – chrysalis drop ear
Lipstick Chanel – rouge allure
Clutch From St Xavier – crescent box clutch
Shoes Myer – Robert Robert Acton black pump
Melbourne Cup Day Styling
Melbourne Cup is the race that stops the nation. It is the biggest of all of the days. So why not make a statement in the embellished Bae Dress with a beautifully hand beaded floral design. This is the day when you can really embrace colour and make it fun. I have chosen to use a headband as the dress is the standout feature in this outfit.
Dress Kholo – bae dress with floral details in navy and white
Head piece Suzy O’rourke Millinery – gold spike crown
Earrings Angela Clark Boutique – vintage Czech glass earrings
Clutch Olga Berg – lyric embossed pod
Shoes The Iconic – rina laceup heels by spurr
Oaks Day Styling
Oaks Day is ladies day so elegance and femininity is the key for your race day look. I have chosen to use the Primrose Yellow Bae Dress and have added a very feminine feel with the floral headpiece, clutch and mules.
Dress Kholo – bae dress in primrose yellow
Headpiece The Eternal Headonist – morgan taylor teal button beret with orchid trim
Clutch Olga Berg – lani floral embroidered clutch
Cuff Lovisa – brushed gold cuff
Earrings Lady Fox – soul star earrings
Shoes Filly’s Stable - on parks mandolin mule
In order for your Spring Racing Carnival to be a success always remember to plan your outfit in advance to prevent any last minute headaches. Shoes can be a real problem, so be sure to have a few practice runs in your shoes so your feet don’t end up in pain on the day. If you have room in your bag you could pop in a pair of flats and band-aids for the ride home. Lastly always make sure you have a good night sleep the night before, as we all need our beauty sleep.
Most importantly enjoy and have fun!!
